Changing Futures: Supporting 11 Girls in Dokolo, Uganda Through Education in 2026

Education is one of the most powerful tools to break the cycle of poverty. Yet for many girls around the world, access to education remains fragile—especially at the moment when they transition from primary to secondary school. In Dokolo, a rural district in northern Uganda, this transition is often the point where girls’ education comes to an abrupt end.

In 2026, Fundación Tara for Women is proud to sponsor the Anyimaber (“Good Future”) Scholarship Program, ensuring that 11 girls from highly vulnerable backgrounds can continue their education through secondary school or vocational training. This support represents far more than school fees—it is an investment in dignity, opportunity, and long-term social transformation.

Why Dokolo? A Context of Extreme Educational Vulnerability

Dokolo is home to approximately 8,600 people, most of whom rely on subsistence farming and small-scale trading. Structural poverty, long distances to schools, overcrowded classrooms, and hidden education costs all restrict access to learning. While these barriers affect many children, girls face the greatest risk of being left behind.

The data is stark:

  • School absenteeism reaches 68%

  • Only 20% of children complete primary education

  • Just 25% of those who finish primary school transition to secondary education

  • Until 2023, no girl in the district had completed lower secondary education

For girls, dropping out often leads to early marriage or adolescent pregnancy—events that permanently limit their educational, economic, and personal futures.

A Critical Intervention at the Right Moment

The Anyimaber Scholarship Program focuses on the most critical and vulnerable moment in a girl’s educational journey: the transition from primary education to secondary school or vocational training.

In a context where only 18.5% of girls continue their education after primary school, supporting girls at this stage is essential to prevent irreversible exclusion. By guaranteeing continuity, the program helps girls remain in the education system, strengthens their self-confidence, and keeps future opportunities open.

What the Scholarship Provides

The scholarships combine financial support, accountability, and ongoing monitoring. Each scholarship covers between 25% and 75% of annual education costs, depending on family vulnerability, academic performance, and the cost of the chosen school.

The support includes:

  • School tuition fees

  • Learning materials

  • Continuous academic follow-up

  • Two academic reports per year and a final impact report

In return, scholarship recipients commit to:

  • Regular school attendance

  • Periodic academic reporting

  • Promotion to the next grade level

If a student is unable to continue, the scholarship is reassigned to ensure that resources always reach those who can benefit.

11 Girls, 11 Stories, One Shared Future

The 11 girls supported through this program come from households affected by widowhood, extreme poverty, family breakdown, or communities where girls’ education has never been the norm. Some are the only girls in their families still pursuing education, while others will become the first girls in their villages to attend secondary school.

By supporting these girls, Fundación Tara for Women is not only changing individual lives—it is sending a powerful message to entire communities: girls’ education matters.

Measurable, Real, and Sustainable Impact

This initiative delivers impact on three levels:

1. Immediate and Direct Impact

Each investment translates into real educational access for clearly identified girls, ensuring transparency and measurable results.

2. Long-Term Social Impact

Education reduces the risk of early marriage and adolescent pregnancy, improves employment prospects, and strengthens girls’ capacity to become independent and active contributors to their communities.

3. A Powerful Multiplier Effect

As girls stay in school and succeed, they inspire others. Younger girls begin to aspire to education, families reconsider their priorities, and communities slowly shift their perceptions around gender and opportunity.

A Highly Efficient Model Aligned with Global Goals

With a contribution of €3,000, Fundación Tara for Women:

  • Guarantees access to post-primary education for 11 girls

  • Directly addresses gender inequality

  • Supports a 100% field-based intervention, with no overhead costs charged to donations

  • Aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 5 (Gender Equality)

The program is implemented in partnership with Fundación Pablo Horstmann, an organization recognized for transparency and impact, and awarded the UNICEF Award (2020) and Rafael Nadal Award (2025).

Education That Transforms Lives—and Communities

Investing in the education of these 11 girls is not just about funding school fees.
It is about interrupting a structural cycle of poverty and inequality.
It is about protecting futures at risk.
And it is about proving that when girls are given the opportunity to learn, entire communities move forward.

In Dokolo, education is hope. In 2026, thanks to Fundación Tara for Women, that hope is becoming a reality.
