Education & Empowerment for Girls and Women in Dokolo, Uganda

We provide scholarships for girls and adolescents in Uganda, covering educational expenses, medical care, nutrition, and academic support to ensure they stay in school.

MEET GORETY

Goretty is 35 years old, a mother of ten, and the director of Heritage Community School in Dokolo, Uganda. Five of the children are her own, and five more she has welcomed into her home as her own. In her community, she is more than an educator, she is a protector, a guide, and a source of hope for women and girls who are often left behind.

Starting a school was never part of Goretty’s life plan.

But during a period of confinement, she noticed something alarming: her children, after weeks without classes, had forgotten how to write their own names. With no other option, she began teaching them at home. Word spread quickly. As children walked long distances to fetch water each day, they stopped to listen, to learn, to sit beneath the large Melayina tree where Goretty was teaching.

What began as a few lessons under a tree slowly became a community movement.

Four years later, with the support of partner foundations, that small group has grown into Heritage Community School, a community-based preschool and primary school that now serves 410 children.

The school was built with one clear mission:

To ensure that children, especially girls in this forgotten rural region have access to quality education and a real chance at a better future.

Building Sustainable Futures in Dokolo

In Dokolo, Uganda, limited access to education, clean water, and economic opportunities continues to restrict the future of thousands of people. Together with the Pablo Horstmann Foundation, we are working hand in hand with the community to drive long-term solutions that address these challenges while empowering women and girls as agents of change.

At the core of this collaboration is a holistic approach that combines education, economic sustainability, and women’s empowerment.

THE EDUCATION MILL

The Education Mill is a key pillar of this initiative. By installing a milling machine capable of hulling and grinding grain for the community, the project responds to a real local need while creating a sustainable source of income. Once operational costs, such as diesel, salaries, and the construction of a shelter are covered, the profits generated by the mill will be used to fund the school expenses of 20 girls from vulnerable families.

For many of them, this support represents the difference between staying in school or being forced to drop out due to financial hardship.

Education Mill - Investment (20 Girls) --------------------------> €2,908

The space will be led by Goretty, a respected community leader, who will coordinate and drive each initiative. Under her leadership, women will gain the tools, knowledge, and confidence needed to build independence and long-term well-being for themselves, their families, and their community.

These initiatives create a sustainable, community-led model that transforms education into opportunity, empowers women economically, and lays the foundation for a more resilient and equitable future in Dokolo.
