PatientX: Putting Patients at the Heart of Innovation

10 FINALIST - II Entrepreneurship Call 2025: Women in Technology

In the world of clinical trials, patients often feel like just another data point. But PatientX is changing that. Founded by three visionary women Farah Ahmad, Jodie Huddleston, and Elizabeth A. Sternke, this pioneering platform is on a mission to make patients the center of every clinical trial.

PatientX is built on a simple idea with profound implications: listen to patients, understand their experiences, and use that insight to improve the way trials are conducted. By giving patients a voice, PatientX not only ensures better outcomes for research but also transforms the trial process into something more humane, inclusive, and efficient.

Their mission is to help life sciences stakeholders improve trial performance and outcomes by turning the patient experience into actionable, data-driven insights.

The Challenge

Clinical trials are notoriously complex, lengthy, and costly often taking 10–15 years and up to $1.3 billion per medication. Retaining patients is a critical challenge, with current abandonment rates around 30%, study delays or cancellations at 85%, and participation of minority groups under 16%. The cost of recruiting and replacing patients is high, and even a single day of delay can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

The Solution

PatientX leverages real-time patient experience data, combined with artificial intelligence and benchmarking, to:

  • Identify and address factors affecting patient retention and engagement.

  • Measure patient experience at every stage of the trial beginning, middle, and end.

  • Provide predictive analytics and visual dashboards for patients, sponsors, and research centers.

Competitive Advantages

  • The only scientifically validated solution with industry benchmarking.

  • Improves patient retention, accelerates time to market, and reduces risks and costs.

  • Enables strategic, data driven decision making across stakeholders.

Impact of PatientX

  1. Improved Patient Retention: By tracking and analyzing patient experiences in real-time, PatientX addresses issues causing trial dropouts, reducing abandonment rates and associated costs.

  2. Reduced Costs & Faster Time-to-Market: Data-driven insights allow for optimized trial management, saving millions and shortening development timelines.

  3. Diversity & Representation: Encourages inclusion of minority and underrepresented groups, enhancing the validity and applicability of trial results.

  4. Patient Empowerment: Elevates the patient’s voice, making their experience a central part of decision-making for sponsors, research centers, and technology platforms.

  5. Innovation & Standardization: Introduces scientifically validated metrics to measure patient experience, enabling comparison across centers, studies, and companies.

  6. Competitive Advantage for Stakeholders: Sponsors and research centers can showcase improved patient experience, differentiating themselves and meeting new industry regulations.

  7. Social & Public Health Impact: Enhances ethical, inclusive, and efficient clinical research, accelerating access to new treatments for patients worldwide.
